I have the honour to submit for your con-

sideration a letter of the 8th. instant from the Captain

Superintendent of Police in which he recommends that in future

an addition, not exceeding 1/6th. of a Police Officer's salary,

in respect of free quarters, be made to Police salaries in

calculating Police pensions and that the Police Pension Rules

be amended accordingly.

Assuming that this addition is made to

the pension of the Police in Singapore, I recommend that there

shall be no difference in the treatment of the two Forces,

especially as there is considerable difficulty in procuring

European Constables here.

I have the honour to b#,

Sir,

Your most obedient

Humble servant,

Buny artal

Governor, 80..
